Social Processes Have an Expiration Date

Social processes—such as methods of collaboration, leadership, decision-making, change management, and communication—have an expiration date, much like perishable goods. Repetition beyond their relevance increasingly drains work energy, becomes unhealthy for individuals, and damages organizations. Successive generations play a key role in updating these processes.

With groups of 7 to 9 peers from the same generation, we analyze:
a) what drains work energy and is outdated,
b) what generates the most work energy and constitutes updates, and
c) how the update processes can be supported.

Overview of the Process:
The research sessions last a maximum of 1.5 hours per generational group. All sessions are recorded on video and summarized. Using the footage, a team within the organization can map out what is outdated, what the updates are, where stagnation occurs, and how it can be resolved.

This research can also focus exclusively on the youngest working generation to gain insight into:
a) what attracts them to the organization—what generates their work energy,
b) what does not—what drains their work energy, and
c) which interventions are needed to make the organization more attractive to them.

With three generations, the research can be conducted in a single day. Two weeks later, the summarized video footage is reviewed, and conclusions are drawn collaboratively.
